How Hope For All Started
Hope For All began as a childhood fundraising mission in 2009: when Sophia Gustafson was 10 years old, her family began the process of adoption of her younger sisters from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Upon learning that many orphaned children globally were not able to afford school tuition, Sophia began making Hair Bows and crafts and selling them to send money to any orphanages in the DRC, Haiti, Uganda, Jordan, and Guatemala she could get in contact with that were in need of donations. Of course this amount of money was not substantial by any means, but it began the fundraising mission of Hope For All.
From 2009 to 2018 Hope For All partnered with the HOPEH Haiti, Loving One by One Uganda, and several other organizations to fund about 10 children’s school tuitions, buy two oxygen respirators for women’s violence shelters, purchase several water filtration systems, send 100s of lbs of medical and dental supplies, plant 1000s of trees, and buy 1000s of nutritional supplement meals for orphans and refugees in several countries. By 2019 however, Hope For All began its long-term partnership with the Global Orphan Foundation to fund the basic needs and school tuition of the children in a Kinshasa DRC orphanage.
Today, having this specific singular orphanage as our partner has allowed HFA to become much more sustainable, consistent, and community based in our mission. HFA plans to be a partner and consistent source of funding for the Kinshasa DRC orphanage for as long as they wish to partner with us.
